In the wake of this terrible tragedy, I am seeing so many women brainwashed by internalized misogyny & men being apologists for the shooter’s behavior & saying it is the fault of the women for being “cold”.
I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all the men in my life who are not like this.
Who love & respect women because they are human beings, that know that they do not owe ANYONE ANYTHING in regards to their time, affection, or sex, that hold them accountable for their actions, forgive them when they make mistakes, look up to them as leaders, lead them without condescension, accept their opinions and emotions as valid whether they are or are not menstruating, that take their advice as they would a man’s, that give advice without ulterior motives, that recognize them as imperfect, that recognize that same imperfection in themselves, and accept them as equals.
I am sorry you’ve had to endure being grouped into the same place as the hate-filled people that we women are fighting against, but when you are a part of a system that oppresses someone other than yourself, sometimes you need to put sensitivity aside and recognize it. By being who you are, you are a good person. By calling out misogynist behavior, you stand beside us. Saves the lives of men and women alike, treat everyone as equals.
Go forth. Love one another.
